Reason # 3 You May Want To Incorporate:
You Will Have a Real and Legitimate Business

This is not to insult you if you're operating your business, whether it be a home business, brick-and-mortor, or online business.  Most people seem to automatically view "size" as the determining factor in whether a business is legitmate (i.e., the larger = the more legitimate).  Not true -- It's a function of legality, not size.

We are saying a couple of things here:  Number One, don't be misled into thinking that incorporating your business is only necessary after it achieves some level of size or success.  Again, not true!  We encourage you to incorporate your business as soon as the seed of an idea germinates, so that you have every advantage of success available to you.  Again as we always say:  That's what the big boys do, that's why they're the Big Boys! And Number Two, even if you are operating as a sole proprieter or a partnership, in the eyes of the IRS and the government you are not a business -- you are just you, and this really goes to the main point of this article --

As an individual (and not a business), legally you'll have to jump through many more hoops to avoid the prying eye of the government and IRS.  The example that we use most often is that of a home office.  For years writing off a portion of your living space as office space and deducting these  expenses has been a red flag to the IRS.  Therefore many do not take this truly legitimate write-off for their home-based business, even though it is completely legal!  Avoid that red flag to a great degree by operating within a Wyoming corporation and simply leasing your office space to your corporation.  The beautiful thing about this strategy too, is that rental income to you personally is not "earned" income, and so avoids the 15% self-employment tax -- see you're already saving money!

Another advantage to being a real business (in other words, incorporating), and one that we here at Wyoinc believe strongly in, is the mental shift that you make when you incorporate your business.  You have now become "official" and that is very powerful to many entrepreneurs!  Since feelings translate into actions, and actions translate into success,  by incorporating your business -- especially incorporating your home-based business -- makes you feel like you are a success, and a real-and-going enterprise.
